What a complete visit looks like

We clear the runs, flush the downspouts and check that water leaves the roofline. In practice that means debris lifted out of every run by hand or vacuum, a rinse to watch the flow, and a mention of anything that looks worn. If any quote says only gutter cleaning with no further detail, ask what that covers.

• Are all runs and corners included, or only those within easy ladder reach?
• Is the debris bagged and removed, or left on the lawn for you?
• Are the downspouts checked, or only the trough?
• Will you hear about worn spots before the crew leaves?

Questions to put to any gutter company

3. Is the price firm, per foot or per story?
4. How do you handle roofs that are too steep or fragile to walk?
5. When can you start, and how long will it take?

Florida licenses roofing and sheet metal contractors, but we found nothing saying gutter cleaning alone has its own license. We do not do roofing, repairs or gutter installation: cleaning is the whole job. If any company claims a license, you can check it with the state.

Our own quote depends on your home: the number of stories, the roofline, the length of gutter, how clogged the runs are and whether we can get to them. A second story, steep pitch, long runs, heavy buildup and locked gates tend to raise a quote; easy ladder access and recent maintenance tend to lower it.
